Gladstone's Land Lecture Series - Sir David Lyndsay's 'Ane Satyre of the Thrie Estaitis'
Join Professor Greg Walker, holder of the Regius Chair of Rhetoric and English Literature at the University of Edinburgh, as he discusses Sir David Lyndsay’s dramatic masterpiece, ‘Ane Satyre of the Thrie Estaitis’.
Rarely performed today, even in its native Scotland, and never in its entirety, the Satyre is probably the most remarkable and radical piece of theatre from the 16th century. Professor Walker will suggest why it is so important, and so neglected, illustrating his talk with images from the first full professional production since 1554, which he helped to stage in Linlithgow in 2013.
